The e-commerce app I designed for Bloomingdale’s is launched today, yay! If you use iPhone, get it on iTunes, if you use Android, please wait until Friday to download from the Android Market.

BigBrownBag

There are lots of tiny details and pages in the design, we were also covering different resolutions and screen sizes in different handheld devices, so lots of times I had to design 4 versions of 1 page.

BigBrownBag

Big Brown Bag is the first ever app from the Bloomingdale’s internal team, it looks like a simple clean app, but from design to development, it took the entire hardworking team 7 months to complete. It was a huge team effort.

BigBrownBag

Big Brown Bag allows everyone who loves Bloomingdale’s to shop through their phone right away, but what sets it apart from the other e-commerce app is its Registry functionalities. For couples who are creating a bridal registry, they could skip the step of building the list with a scan gun at the store and then head home to edit the entire registry list online. Instead, they can leverage the barcode scan technology from the smart phone camera and build their list in the app and have the list portable with them to edit anytime they want. They could change the color size and quantities of the items they’ve scanned, it’s super convenient.

BigBrownBag

I was really glad to have worked on this project. The actual design phase for this actually ended back in February and I’ve already moved onto other projects. However, it was my first time leading the design for a multi-platform app and I’ve learned so much. On top of that, I’ve also met some REALLY smart friends.

BigBrownBag

From a designer’s point of view, there is definitely still room to improve. But it could launch and look the way it does now, I already feel extremely proud!

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore iPad App Trailer from Moonbot Studios on Vimeo.

I’m a little late on this but I just found a new interactive iPad storybook that could be a big hit for both small kids or big kids. The app/storybook is produced by former Pixar designer William Joyce and Moonbot Studios. What’s exciting is that every page of the book presents a different interaction opportunity depending on the storyline. On top of this, you can choose to read the book by yourself/with your kids or have the iPad lead you through it. This iPad storybook combined beautiful illustration and attention grabbing interactions, I believe this design is especially targeted towards kids of the now. Accompanying the storybook is a short film which tells the exact same story with a lot more detailed illustration. There are no words or conversation in the short, it’s purely a visual translation yet is perfectly complimentary to the storybook.

In the era of internet replacing publishing, how do we make kids appreciate and understand the importance of books? The most valuable things about books are probably the knowledge/stories and not the actual printed pages because it’s the stories that stay with us for the rest of our lives.

Evertale is a new product by a team based in Copenhagen that can “weave memories” and record personal mementos – photos, sound, music, video and more. I’m very curious about the actual functionality and interactions. But while we patiently wait for the release, let’s take a look at their very well-made promotional video. Love the bike and food culture in Denmark!

The MENU Ovenproof Steam Tower is stacking steamer made out of porcelain. The five-piece cookware is designed by Christian Bjørn with Michelin starred chef Morten Køster. While collaborating on the design of the Steam Tower, chef Køster also wrote a cookbook to show how easy it is to make healthy and fuss-free dishes with it.

Steaming has long been one of the most common ways to cook in Asian cultures. It is common to see bamboo steamers in Asian groceries and specialty stores in a variety of different sizes. The bamboo steamers are durable and lends a specific scent to the food cooked in them. However, like many people, I worry about where the bamboo came from and if germs and bacteria grow with usage over time. Steam Tower is not only nice to look at, it is also easy to clean. What a great alternative to the traditional! Take a look at the Menu’s gorgeous catalog, MenuMag, to see more simple and innovative Scandinavian design.

Hot Pot BBQ

Want a backyard, want a small herb garden, I just want a small BBQ not a humongous grill. Love the Hot Pot BBQ from Black+Blum.

I believe the purpose for Noodlor’s design of this infograpic, A Guide to Type, is to help people understand typography at a glance. How I would’ve loved to have this infographic right in front of me when I headed down the road to become a designer. Not because of anything, but most people remember things better they are visually stunning and balanced. If I had this with me, I probably would never forget any terms and rules.
